Shoring and dewatering of excavated trench to install sanitary sewer line and manhole, La Feria, TX

This project addresses both the continued implementation of the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Protection Plan and tracking and inventorying on-site sewage facilities (OSSFs) in the watershed.

The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) is continuing to implement the WPP and track its implementation and its management measures. It is also providing technical assistance to the Watershed Steering Committee and stakeholders and will collect data on WPP implementation efforts.

Since many residents in the Arroyo Colorado Watershed use OSSFs and with the high likelihood of OSSF failure within the watershed, the partnership has designated OSSFs as a high priority. TWRI is developing a watershed-wide OSSF database as well as accessing current and historical OSSF permit records to populate the OSSF geospatial database. The database will help identify areas that have a high probability of OSSF failure. The geospatial data will be analyzed, mapped, and added to the Arroyo Colorado website. The information will be used to coordinate with wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) operators to plan for future inclusion of OSSFs and colonia infrastructure.

Watershed and OSSF educational materials and outreach programs specifically targeting homeowners are being developed. Visit the Septic System Resources page.
