Arroyo Colorado

August 18, 2006

Dear Arroyo Partners,

Again, the next Steering Committee Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 30, 2006. It will be held at the same place, the Rio Red Classroom of the Texas A & M Kingsville Citrus Center, however the time has changed. The social will start at 4:00 PM and the actual meeting is scheduled from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This is an important meeting as we will be reviewing the completed draft Arroyo Colorado Watershed Protection Plan. The draft plan will be distributed to the Steering Committee and technical work group members a week before the meeting for review and comment. Initial comments will be received at this next meeting and then distributed to the greater Partnership for additional review and comment.

Thank you for your patience. A group of us have been working to pull our plan together. As I have said before, all major plan elements have been presented and approved by the Steering Committee. We are calling this initial two year round of planning the first phase of the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Protection Plan. A substantial amount of work and projects are outlined in the plan and will keep us busy for years to come. Another planning phase is anticipated as major plan elements are implemented and reviewed. This is called adaptive management and is an important aspect of the plan.

This past week I have been working on the next Arroyo Colorado newsletter. It contains updates and major plan elements. Be on the lookout for it and if you do not get a copy, please let me know so the membership database can be updated.

I have not mentioned the aeration structures for a while although they have been a topic of discussion at several meetings. Attached is a short write-up on the project that will be in the upcoming newsletter.

One a final note, also attached is our final logo design. At the request of several members, the Kingfisher bird now has more detail. This was done to make it a little truer and just in case we decided to have hats or shirts embroidered with the logo, it will stand out that much better.

Have a great weekend,

Laura
