Dear Arroyo Partners,
Yea, the first draft of the Arroyo Colorado watershed plan was distributed at this weeks Steering Committee meeting. It was also sent via email for review and comment to Steering Committee members and technical experts who were not able to attend. Once we get the initial comments from our Steering Committee, we will make necessary revisions and then post for general Partnership's review and comments.
This morning we made the front page of the Valley Morning Star with an article titled "Cleansing the Arroyo". See attachment. We are moving closer to a cleaner Arroyo Colorado as we move ahead with the implementation of a number of projects. The "signed, sealed, and delivered" quote is in reference to TCEQ's and EPA's commitment to fund four wetland systems to treat part of the wastewater effluent from the City of San Juan, City of La Feria, City of San Benito, and the City of Mercedes. TCEQ has submitted/delivered the proposal for funding to the EPA and the final approval is a matter of formality. Another clarification is that currently, there are three new wastewater treatment plants under construction, one in San Benito, La Feria, and by the East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation. The City of Alamo is working towards getting a new plant and upgrades are planned by the Military Highway Water Supply Corporation for the City of Progresso.
I have more to report but have come to the end of this week. Stay tuned for additional updates next week.
Have a safe and fun Labor Day weekend,
