Dear Arroyo Partners,
First of all, next week is the 18th Arroyo Colorado Steering Committee and Partnership meeting! It will be held on April 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Rio Red Classroom of the TAMUK Citrus Center, 312 N. International Blvd., Weslaco, Texas. Come early for the 4:30 p.m. social with food and beverages sponsored by the Valley Land Fund. Note that the Habitat Workgroup will meet from 2:00 to 4:00 that afternoon, also in the Rio Red Classroom. All meetings are open to Partners and the general public.
Attached are the meeting agendas (Steering Committee / Habitat Workgroup). Recently, we had two very productive work group meetings and have new information to present. Aside from providing workgroup updates, there will be an in-depth review of the bacteria issues associated with the Arroyo Colorado, and a presentation on a new technology for water quality improvements. Most importantly we will discuss long-term sustainability of our Partnership. A budget will be presented along with options for funding the Partnership and associated projects. Again, the Lower Rio Grande Development Council has been identified as the best local organization to administer our Partnership, like what they do for the Rio Grande Regional Water Authority and the Region M Water Planning Group. We will discuss the option of being our own 501(c) administered by the LRGVDC or the option to operate under a new department within LRGVDC. Our Steering Committee will provide direction on this issue.
In regards to the wetland field trip to Victory, it is rescheduled for the second week in June due to an unexpected schedule conflict of one of the trip leaders. A firm date will be announced the next update. Thank you for your patience regarding this rescheduling.
