January 2, 2008
Dear Arroyo Partners,
HAPPY NEW YEAR! May 2008 be a great year for one and all!!
Our Arroyo Colorado Watershed Partnership ended 2007 with the submittal of two EPA Environmental Educational grant proposals. One proposal is for the development of public service announcements (PSAs) to raise awareness of the water quality issues associated with the Arroyo Colorado and inform the general public on how they can help, and the other proposal is for the distribution and revision of the existing Arroyo Watershed curriculum.
On December 17, 2007, we had a very good wetland meeting. Attached are the meeting notes. The meeting included updates from the Valley cities involved in this project and presentations from wetland experts. Thanks and acknowledgment goes out to Dr. John Day, Dr. Kim Jones, and Chris Hathcock for their informative presentations. Again, the cities of San Juan, La Feria, and San Benito must be recognized for their work in taking the first steps of permitting and design in this process to construction wetlands for water quality improvement.
Mark your calendars for the next Partnership and Steering Committee meeting scheduled for January 24, 2008. It will be held at the same time (4:30 - 7:00 pm) and the same place (Rio Red Classroom of the Citrus Center). You will receive the agenda in the next update. Also note that there will be a series of work group meetings this month:
- January 15, 2008 - Education and Outreach Work Group Meeting, 4-6 pm
- January 24, 2008 - Agricultural Issues Work Group Meeting, 10 am to noon
