June 28, 2010
Hello Arroyo Partners:
It has been brutally hot in the Rio Grande Valley for the past couple of weeks. The weather forecasters are expecting temperatures to reach a high of 104 F today. They also said that Tropical Storm "Alex" has entered the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to make landfall later this week somewhere between Tampico, Mexico and Galveston, Texas. That puts the Rio Grande Valley dead center in the projected path of this storm. Everyone along the Coast needs to be prepared for the worst.

The purpose of the survey is to determine actual and potential recreational uses in the Arroyo and, if necessary, to assign a more appropriate use.

I finally did manage to get some fishing in. I went offshore fishing with some friends and Captain Arlan Lewis out of Port Mansfield. We went 24 miles out and were fishing in 120' of water. We had a great day and limited out on red snapper. The water was beautiful. A stunning contrast to what I see being reported on television about the oil spill. The oil spill in the Gulf is a disaster and is going to impact a lot of marine life for a very long time.
