Arroyo Colorado

September 1, 2015

Hello Arroyo Partners:

It was brutally hot and dry for most of the month of August until last week when some violent thunderstorms rumbled through the Rio Grande Valley.  It rained again yesterday, dumping up to 6 inches of rain in the heart of Brownsville causing severe flooding and making GMA weather headlines this morning.  The rain is hindering the cotton harvest with many farmers unable to get into the fields to harvest or retrieve already baled cotton waiting to be taken to the gin.

I want to remind everyone that the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Partnership will be hosting an Arroyo Colorado Steering Committee meeting on October 29, from 5-7 pm.  One of the main topics of the meeting will be to discuss preliminary modeling results for BMP scenarios run for Bacteria and D.O. from the SWAT and CE-QUAL W2 models.  Representatives of the modeling team will be presenting their results and be taking questions from stakeholders regarding the modeling results.  These results will be used in the Update to the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Protection Plan.  Your input and feedback is extremely important so make plans to attend.  The meeting will be held at The Estero Llano Grande World Birding Center located at 3301 S. FM 1015 at Pauraque Hall in the rear of the park. Food and refreshments will be served from 4:30-5:00 pm.  I hope to see y’all there.
