The Arroyo Colorado Watershed
Located in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, the Arroyo Colorado Watershed extends about 90 miles from Mission and drains into the Laguna Madre.


What is a watershed?
An area of land that drains water to a common waterway, such as a stream, lake, or ultimately, the ocean. All land surfaces on Earth are within a watershed.
What is a Watershed Protection Plan (WPP)?
A framework for managing water resource quality and quantity within a specified watershed.


What are the goals of the Arroyo Colorado WPP?
Reduce pollutants entering the Arroyo Colorado to the maximum extent possible to meet state water quality standards and improve the natural terrestrial, riparian, and aquatic habitat.
What is the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Partnership?
» A gathering of federal, state, and private organizations that seek to improve watershed health in the Arroyo Colorado, focusing on issues of water quality, flooding, drainage, wildlife habitat, and water quantity.
