The Western States Alliance (WSA), a project of the Pollution Prevention Resource Center (PPRC), is providing a free technical training in Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) abatement. Sponsors include the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the City of Alamo, Texas.

Participants will receive 0.8 Wastewater CEUs and a certificate of completion for attending. In order to get CEUs, we require folks to take the needs assessment.

Workshop topics:

  1. How to develop an effective FOG Abatement Program
  2. How to implement best practices in both a new and an existing program - with emphasis on data

The training is conducted in a workshop format, especially for wastewater treatment professionals from small, rural communities that do not have a FOG abatement program or a pretreatment program, or that find their current program inadequate.

Training will include such areas as:

  • Why to develop a FOG abatement program and establish legal authority
  • How to involve stakeholders and plan communications
  • How to identify FOG sources and impacts
  • How to protect public/community health with effective FOG management
  • How to achieve a cost-effective FOG management program
  • How to choose among commercially available FOG data management systems

PPRC has received grant funding from the USDA Rural Utilities Service (RUS) to provide this technical training and assistance to small, rural communities in FOG abatement.
