The Arroyo Colorado Agricultural Issues Work Group (AGWG) was formed to identify and address agricultural nonpoint source pollution in the watershed. The AGWG worked with local farmers and producers, Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency to develop the Ag Management Measures outlined in the 2017 Update to the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Protection Plan. The AGWG also works to promote and implement the Ag Management Measures through voluntary adoption of these practices as well as:

  • provide technical assistance to individual landowners to help develop individual farm water quality management plans,
  • help farmers pay for the practices through state and federal cost share assistance for their individual farm plans,
  • provide educational programs to keep farmers current on proper management and production techniques and
  • monitor and assess agriculture's contribution of pollutants and evaluate and demonstrate the benefits of best management practices implementation and measure progress.
