Water quality in the Arroyo Colorado affects the Laguna Madre, Gulf of Mexico and their coastal natural areas. San Benito Wetlands Phase 4 will build upon previous projects that addressed the San Benito wetlands. These wetlands are an important and recommended best management practice in the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Protection Plan to protect water quality and coastal natural resource areas of the Arroyo Colorado, estuaries at its mouth, the Lower Laguna Madre and the Gulf of Mexico.

Project goals include determination of pollutant loads entering the Arroyo Colorado, increased ecotourism, enhanced educational opportunities and coastal wetland access.

This project is funded by the Texas General Land Office Coastal Management Program.
