AC WPP Implementation – OSSF Inventory & Stormwater BMP

This project 1) continues implementation of the Arroyo Colorado Watershed Protection Plan (WPP), 2) continued tracking and inventorying on-site sewage facilities (OSSFs) in the watershed, and 3) created a stormwater green infrastructure as a best management practice (BMP) for water quality improvement at Rio Hondo ISD.

1. The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) is continuing to implement the WPP and track its implementation and its management measures. It is also providing technical assistance to the partnership and community stakeholders and will collect data on WPP implementation efforts.
2. Since many residents in the Arroyo Colorado watershed use OSSFs and with the high likelihood of OSSF failure, the partnership has designated OSSFs as a high priority. An objective of this project was to develop a watershed-wide OSSF database to help identify areas that have a high probability of OSSF failure, including zones of potential bacteria pollution within 1, 5, and 10 miles of the Arroyo Colorado.
3. The goal of installing a stormwater green infrastructure BMP at the Rio Hondo Middle School (RHMS) was to reduce nonpoint source stormwater pollution and reduce stormwater runoff generated by the school.
